The number one way to prevent gum disease and tooth decay is to routinely see your dentist for check-ups and cleanings. Teeth cleanings are the best way to maintain awesome dental hygiene and even to improve and maintain your overall health. Scientific evidence is showing that gum health is directly related to the conditions of the rest of our body including cardiovascular conditions, diabetes, pregnancy, arthritis, and many more health conditions. If you have questions about how dentistry relates to your health condition, call or email us today!
Although you can obtain over-the-counter teeth whitening kits, it is essential that you check with your dentist first about what kind of whitening treatment is the best for you. There are both over-the-counter and in-office treatments that can be used, but factors like whether or not you have tooth decay or infected gums or bridges or crowns make a difference in deciding which method is safe and effective for you to use. Making your beautiful smile as dazzling and clean as possible is an important part of dentistry, and we are happy to help you find the option that is perfect for you.
Bondings & Fillings
If your teeth are damaged or decayed, infection and pain can set in. Or an unsightly chip can leave you feeling less than confident about your smile. Bonded fillings can repair the surface of a tooth that has been fractured, chipped, worn down, or decayed. After applying a local anesthetic to the area, we repair the damaged tooth and reshape it to its normal contour and strength. Bonding to teeth can also sometimes be used to repair a defect in the tooth or a space between the teeth.
Tooth fracture, painful cracks or decay can create extensive loss of tooth structure that may need more support and restoration than a simple filling. We can restore your cracked or broken tooth to its normal size, shape, and strength by splinting and covering it with a sturdy crown. With proper dental hygiene, these crowns can last from five to fifteen years and beyond. Crowns are also used to cover a dental implant or stabilize a dental bridge. We can make gold or incredibly natural looking porcelain crowns. Through the use of custom shade matching and consideration of the shade of the remaining tooth, we can make your damaged or dark teeth look white and natural again.
Periodontal (Gum) Therapy
Anyone can be susceptible to “gum disease” or periodontal disease, from kids to adults, whether it be from genetic factors or lifestyle factors. That is why we offer a thorough range of periodontal (gum) therapies. Regular prophylactic cleanings dramatically help prevent gum disease. Gum disease isn’t always accompanied by pain and can occur without you necessarily noticing it. It can be marked by bad breath, loose teeth, red or swollen gums, bleeding when brushing or flossing, or tooth root exposure. If you suspect you may have gum disease, call us for an appointment. We perform a complete periodontal (gum) exam during your first cleaning visit with us and routinely throughout your ongoing care.
Dentistry is much more than “drilling and filling” and Dr. Frank is focused on preventing dental problems BEFORE they start. Traditional management of periodontal disease has been to measure the gums and “lecture” patients to floss their teeth and brush the right way. Then, traditionally, if the gums bleed or we see bone loss, THEN dentists do “deeper cleanings.” But this is the WRONG approach! In traditional dentistry, we aren’t taking action until you ALREADY have the disease. Salivary diagnostics allow us to determine if you are at risk BEFORE the disease starts and diligently work to PREVENT gum disease. We know that oral bacteria can be passed from person to person and that particular species put us at a much, much higher risk for developing gum disease. Salivary diagnostics allow us to find out what bacteria live in your mouth so we can actually diagnose the cause of your gum disease and treat it appropriately. The DNA is collected through a sample of your saliva “spit” into a tube. Salivary diagnostics can also determine if a patient is genetically predisposed to gum disease because of the way the immune system works. If someone in your family has had gum disease and you are concerned you may be at a higher risk, call us today to find out more.
Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatments are an extremely necessary part of dental health. When the soft tissue inside a tooth’s root canal becomes infected or damaged, it can cause severe pain and requires immediate attention. The root canal treatments we offer go in and restore the diseased tooth, returning it to its natural state of health so it can last a lifetime if properly cared for.
Custom Athletic Mouth Guard
If you are an athlete, or have a child who participates in sports, you know the importance of preventing injuries. We offer custom athletic mouth guards for adults and children and highly recommend them for all contact sports. Studies have shown that wearing custom a mouth guard dramatically lowers your chance of suffering oral or facial injuries. Studies also show that wearing an ill-fitting or over-the-counter mouth guard can actually be worse than no mouth guard at all. Keep yourself safe and confident by seeing Dr. Frank for a custom athletic mouth guard today.
Custom Night Guards for TMJ and Teeth Grinding
TMD (temporomandibular joint disorders) can be painful and frustrating. The teeth, the bite, the muscles and the TMJ can all be affected by disorders of the jaw joint. Clenching and grinding your teeth can cause or exacerbate the symptoms. One of the treatments to protect your teeth and joint is a custom mouth guard that can be worn at night or even during practical times in the day. The guard cushions the temporomandibular joint and the teeth, relaxes the muscles you use to clench and chew, and reduces tension. It keeps your jaw a comfortable position and protects you from clenching or grinding which can fracture teeth and fillings and wear your teeth down. Dr. Frank will fabricate your custom nightguard and then spend time adjusting and detailing the bite so that your TMJ is in a healthy and relaxed position.
Whether it is your wisdom teeth finally coming in and causing all kinds of havoc and pain or a tooth that has become damaged to the point it requires removal, teeth extraction is a solution to the problem. At your No. 1 Post Falls local dental office, we perform careful oral surgery and teeth extraction and will help inform you of all your options in this regard.
Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth that are custom made to fit your mouth perfectly. When teeth become damaged and require extraction, we provide custom dentures to restore your mouth to its natural ideal state. With a variety of options available, we provide extensive discussion about those options so you can choose the right choice for you. With good dental hygiene, dentures can last from 5-10 years and can prove to be an excellent solution for the problem.
If full or extensive dentures are not necessary, we also offer custom partial dentures. Like dental bridges, partial dentures restore one or more teeth that are missing or damaged to the point that they need to be removed. Partial dentures seamlessly fill the gap and provide you with strong, healthy teeth that look and feel natural.
Dental Implant Restoration
At Whitney M. Frank DDS family dental, we believe you should look and feel like the healthiest and best version of yourself. That is why we offer a variety of services, like dental bridges and dental implant restoration, that not only improve the health and strength of damaged and decayed teeth, but also return your smile to its natural, healthy, perfect shape. Restoring dental implants keeps your teeth strong and clean once the original dental implants have begun to accumulate wear and tear.
One of the services we offer is to create dental bridges. Dental bridges are like partial dentures. They are an efficient way to replace one or more missing or damaged teeth. Bridges are attached to gum-colored plastic bases and can come in two different types: removable and permanent. We evaluate each situation to determine what kind of unique dental bridge is needed so you receive the perfect option for you.
Going to the dentist isn’t always about feeling good. It can also be about looking good. When teeth become chipped, worn down, or discolored, one of the options we can offer is to prescribe veneers. Veneers cover the front surface of your tooth with a custom, tooth-colored porcelain overlay that restores the appearance of the tooth to its ideal condition.
